ABOUT RON
Ron McPhee has been in the fitness industry since 1992, teaching in various clubs throughout Edmonton and Calgary.
His career started while working reception at a gym, and noticed the members flocking to the group-x studio. He began attending classes, and after a few times wanted to be the leader, not just the follower.
Ron's passion for fitness drew him to Aeroflex Fitness. At that time it was a women's only fitness facility. The staff and members welcomed him into the Aeroflex family with open arms. Aeroflex is where he started to work on strengthening his skills as an instructor. He was voted "1999-Members Choice Instructor of the Year" from the Aeroflex members.
A few years later while still teaching at Aeroflex Fitness, he began teaching at Spa Lady, a chain of women's only facilities thought Edmonton and Calgary. Ron was presented with the "2005-Instructor of the Year", nominated from his fellow instructors. Spa Lady is not only where Ron has been able to fine tune his instructor skills, but to work on his presenting skills also.
Ron has worked with ringette players during their dry-land sessions. He was able to offer balance and strength with working intervals. Instead of only offering a workout in the gym, variations were offered and the girls had fun and worked closer as a team helping each other out.
During his fitness career, he was approached by new instructors asking for help. So he designed and successfully runs "Group-X Fitness Instructor Workshop" where new instructors can go to practice and learn some tricks of the trade to become a great instructor. He is a Canadian Bender Ball Master Trainer, a canfitpro PRO TRAINER for the Fitness Instructor Specialist (FIS), canfitpro PRO TRAINER CPR and a Red Cross First Aid / CPR Instructor - Training Provider. Watch for sessions on Calendar of Events. Ron is certified; canfitpro Personal Training Specialist (PTS), TRX, Zumba B1 and Spinning. He continues to work to complete the Personal Fitness Trainer Certificate from N.A.I.T. and is working toward the Level 1 Yoga Instructor with YogaFit Canada.
In 2010 Ron was awarded the canfitpro PRO TRAINER Host Award and the World Health Community Spirit Award. Ron volunteers with different events, such as the 2006 Weekend to End Breast Cancer. Ron and fellow instructors were fortunate enough to lead the group of thousands in a warm-up. He has also done warm-ups for the Cheerios Mother Daughter Walk for Heart & Stroke, the Jingle Bell Run, 2012/2013 The Walk to Fight Arthritis, The Terry Fox Run/Walk and the 2010 Edmonton Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life. Over the last few years he has lead the warm-up for the Easter Seals 24hr Relay and offered educational sessions on stretching and the benefits of cross training. He has been lecturing with the Running Room - Callingwood location, providing education sessions from stretching to cross-training.
